There are always many levels of treatments and ways to address various skin conditions and concerns. A solution can be chosen depending on the lifestyle, commitment to treatment and budgetry restrictions of the patient/client. The success of treatments depends on both the expertise of the skin therapist and the compliance of the patient/ client
Facials
Facials can benefit both the young and the old alike. They help rejuvenate the skin, stimulate healthy cell metabolism and prevent premature aging. Common skin problems include:
Microderambrasion
Microdermabrasion is popular with clients of all skin types. It is a method of providing a peel to the epidermis leaving the skin instantly smoother. There are no side effects and the results are instantly visible. Our Microdermabrasion system uses diamond tipped wands to gently abrade the skin surface while simultaneously vacuuming the area to remove the exfoliated dead skin cells. It is a controlled peeling process that helps remove the imperfections from the top layers of skin, revealing the fresh new layer underneath. After the first few treatments, the skin is noticeably much more softer and firmer.
MOST FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
*Although Clinical trials for the effectiveness of dermabrasion, has shown that it does not eliminate the stretch marks entirely, it has been found that taking the color out of stretch marks allows them to become less noticeable. People who have been treated for stretch marks with Microdermabrasion have been very pleased with the results.
Exfoliation
The exfoliation of the top layer of skin sheds old skin cells and triggers new cell production. After the treatment, the skin is softer, smoother and plumped. Any active ingredients that is applied afterwards, is much more readily absorbed into the skin. This helps stimulate blood circulationwhich induces the regeneration of the skin producing new cells and collagen fibers. Enzyme exfoliations are a gentle way to lift off dead skin cells and reveal the natural luminosity of the skin
Chemical Peels
ALPHA & BETA HYDROXIES (AHA & BHA)
AHA/BHA’s have been used for years by Aesthetic surgeons as "chemical peels". The peels include, trichloroacetic acid, phenol, resorcinol, and salicylic acid and are a means to remove undesirable signs of skin aging, such as discoloration, roughness and wrinkling. The chemicals cause the skin to lose its outer layer, or peel off, revealing a fresher-looking layer of skin. Known as chemical exfoliation, the procedure is done in doctors' offices so that doctors can control the process and prevent deep skin burns from the highly acidic solutions. Around 1989 Cosmetic manufacturers began to market similar but milder versions of these chemical peels containing AHAs for salon and at-home use. They quickly caught on, and by 1992, mass marketing of these peels began. The AHAs used most often in cosmetics are glycolic acid and lactic acid, although there are others, many are used in combination. Increasingly, poly-AHAs, with larger molecules, and ingredients such as salicylic acid are used because these products produce less skin irritation. However skin reaction varies in different individuals

OTHER HYDROXY ACIDS
1. Malic acid (apples, vinegar, applesauce, cider);
2. Lactic acid (buttermilk, yogurt, powdered skim milk, sour cream, blackberries, tomatoes);
3. Tartaric acid (grapes, grape juice, wine, cream of tartar);
4. Citric acid (citrus fruits such as lemons, limes, grapefruit, and orange); or glycolic acid (sugar cane).
IPL LASERS
Although there are many laser systems out there in the Market place, all laser cosmetic applications, use selective photothermolysis or light that targets a single element in the skin as a means to achieve the desired result. There are ablative laser systems that abrade the surface of the skin and others that are non-ablative that work beneath without abrading the surface of the skin. There are 5 parameters that govern all of these systems
Since these parameters are interdependent, the correct combination is critical to the outcome of a particular treatment.
Wavelength - The longer the wavelength the deeper the energy penetrates into the skin.
Melanin, whether in the epidermis or the hair follicle, absorbs light preferentially in the visible spectrum of light
Hemoglobin, preferentially absorbs light in the infrared spectrum of light and peaks around both 600nm and 1100nm
Pulse Width-The length of time in milliseconds over which the laser energy is emitted
The energy has to be delivered quickly and over a short period of time so that it does not dissipate to, and damage, the surrounding tissue.
Power/Fluence- is the amount of energy delivered to the tissue
The energy is is measured in Joules /cm 2
Spot Size - the area over which the energy is applied
As compared to the older laser , modern lasers have larger spot sizes so that faster treatment is possible. Since the edges of the laser beam scatters some of the energy. Larger spot sizes allow deeper penetration of the energy.
Cooling- enhances epidermal protection
There are a number of methods used including a cooling mechanism right on the applicator head to separate system that blows cold air or a cryogen spray that is fired over the treatment area
Important Pretreatment Consideration
- Although enhanced body image is often culturally encouraged, it is important to have realistic expectations that are not contingent on the approval of some 3rd party person.
- Care should be taken in locating the most qualified surgeon-technologist professionals before having laser treatment
- You should come away from your preliminary interview with answers to all your questions and should feel comfortable that your needs are understood.
- Since treatment covers an elongated period of time , it is important that you are under the care of qualified professionals
- Literature and/or written summary with regards to what you should expect during treatment should be given you together with the estimated cost so that here are no future surprises and unpleasantness about costs and payments.
IPL FOTOFACIAL
How does it work?
It uses radiofrequency energy to heat the tissue below the skin while it keeps the skin surface cool. This "tightens" your existing collagen and stimulates new collagen growth. The end result is tighter, firmer skin. The length of time required for the procedure itself will depend on the size of the treatment area. The usual range is between 30 minutes and one hour. While the procedure should not hurt, you may experience a pinging sensation in the treated areas. Patients leave the office looking and feeling great. There are no restrictions in activity following the procedure.
Does skin color affect the outcome?
Unlike laser procedures, radiofrequency energy is unaffected by skin pigment. All skin colors can be safely and effectively treated.
What results can I expect?
Results will vary from patient to patient, and your age, treatment area and skin laxity can all affect the outcome. While some patients have seen improvement within a few days, you should expect your results to appear over a period of three to 8 months. We will take pictures before and after your procedure so you can see the benefits of your treatment over time.
When can I go back to work?
Patients can return to their normal activities immediately. Occasionally patients experience a brief redness that fades within a few hours. Our staff saw patients immediately after their own treatments.
Does it replace the traditional facelift and resurfacing?
It will not replace laser skin treatments or traditional facelift for treatment of all skin conditions or all signs of aging. For example, Botox and collagen resurfacing is recommended to treat more deeply wrinkled, sun damaged skin and a neck lift may be indicated for skin laxity and bands in the neck. We can determine the best treatment for your desired outcome in a consultation.
How safe is it?
It is extremely safe. While this may be a relatively new procedure, great effort has been made to make it as safe as possible. There are very rare adverse effects, which we will be happy to review with you at your consultation.
Do I need special preparation?
There is no need to interrupt your usual routine. You may take your usual medications before, during and after the procedure.
Is this treatment for everyone?
Because radiofrequency is used in these treatments, patients with heart pacemakers are advised not to undergo this facelift procedures. The radiofrequency may interfere with the heart pacemaker device.
Where on the face is it applied?
Tightening skin in key areas can be advantageous for cosmetic improvement. Treating the forehead can lift the eye brows and enhance the appearance of the eyes, making the eyes look more open, less tired and more alert. Other areas such as the skin of the cheeks and under chin areas can also be treated to reduce the sagginess that produces deep folds with aging. Multiple other sites are being tested.
Is it painful?
Each time the machine is fired there is a sensation of heat in the area. A cooling device makes this quite tolerable. Fortunately, this pinging sensation lasts only fractions of a second and is followed by a cold sensation, which also helps minimize the discomfort.
When can I return to normal activities?
Immediately. There is typically no down time. Minimal redness is seen in some patients, but it usually disappears within an hour. There is usually no swelling, bruising or pain afterwards. There is usually no special care needed except religious use of Sun Block
How long will the effects last?
We do not know; however, results have been documented to last at least 22 months. But because of the aging process, skin laxity will naturally increase again with time. However, results from the treatment do not suddenly disappear in one day.
Can this be combined with other treatments?
The WR facelift has been successfully combined with IPL Fotofacial for treatment of photo aging, red spots and brown spots. The IPL Fotofacial can be combined with ALA (Aminolevulanic acid) for acne scars and unsightly superficial blood vessels and actinic keratosis. Microdermabrasion has been combined as well as Botox and Restylane for resolution of dynamic wrinkles caused by the muscles in the face.
IPL HAIR REDUCTION
IPL hair reduction eliminates the need for waxing, shaving, tweezing etc. and can treat Chin, Upper lip, Face, Back, Arms, Legs or other are of the body. The success of laser hair reduction is directly linked to the biological processes of hair growth and generation. Hair follicles have varying times of active growth. Hairs disabled by the laser during their active growth phase will generally not produce or re-generate hair from that site. However, other hair follicles are operating on different growth cycles in a rolling pattern of hair follicle activity across the body. As these other hairs move into their Anagen or rapid growth phase, the follow-up laser appointment will capture and disable them as it did with the initial batch of hair follicles
For many men, laser hair reduction on the back and upper shoulders results in a more balanced look and is a recognized aesthetic benefit of reducing the volume of hair on their body.
How does the Aurora Laser get rid of my hair?
The Aurora uses gentle light and electric energies to damage the hair follicle. This disables the follicle from growing hair, which means that gradually over several treatments, there is a permanent reduction in the amount of hair in that area.
Is treatment with Aurora safe?
Treatment is very safe for the skin. There are many advances in the Aurora technology that make it one of the safest hair removal systems available for all skin colors. There are no long term health hazards from light or electric energies used in the Aurora. Both have been used for decades in medicine, surgery, and aesthetics without adversity.
What type of results can I expect from Aurora treatment?
Each Aurora treatment will result in less hair coming back, as well as hair growing progressively lighter in color, finer, and slower-growing with each treatment. It takes more than 1 treatment to affect all the follicles growing in an area. Most people achieve satisfactory clearance after 4-8 treatments, but individual results vary depending on medical and genetic factors. Lighter colored hair may require more treatments than darker colored hair.
How frequently do I need treatment?
The treatments are usually performed every 2-3 months, but this depends on individual factors that our Aurora clinician will discuss with you during consultation.
Does the treatment hurt?
The sensation is often described as hot pinch, or snapping feeling. The sensation only lasts for fraction of a second, and you may feel warmth or a tingling sensation for a short time afterward. Most people tolerate treatment without any topical anesthetic cream, which may be used to numb the skin from feeling sensation for very sensitive individuals.
What happens after each treatment?
Temporary pinkness in the skin lasts a very short time, and most people return to work or normal activities immediately after treatment. The treated area will shed some hairs over the next 3-4 weeks, and you may experience a period of hairlessness in the area while you wait for your next treatment.
Who should get Aurora treatment for Hair Removal?
Anyone who wants a solution to shaving, waxing, plucking, or electrolysis. There are a few medical conditions that contraindicate people from treatment which will be discussed with your Aurora clinician during consultation
Important Pretreatment Consideration
PHOTODYNAMIC THERAPY(PDT)
PDT allows the physician to provide a safe non invasive treatment for acne, sun damage and potential basal and squamous cell carcinoma. It involves the application of a clear solution called Aminolevulinic Acid, a chemical that when activated by certain wavelength of light (Blue light / IPL) is readily absorbed by abnormally fast growing cells (FCG) and obliterates them. It is able to do this effectively without damaging the surrounding skin and without the side effects of other treatments for precancerous growths such as actinic keratosis as well as harmless oil glands and Hair follicles. Furthermore there is little downtime.
As research in ALA-PDT therapy has progressed it is becoming apparent that it produces aesthetic benefits that reduce redness, sunspots, enlarged oil gland hyperactivity, hair follicle blockage, and growth of bacteria in the hair follicles. Thus PDT can reduce treatment time as well as the reliance on hormone therapy with it’s potentiality of side effects.
